NURTURING UMMATIC EXCELLENCE THROUGH SDG 17 : PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS

IIUM advances SDG 17 by integrating teaching & learning, research & innovation, and community engagement into one Ummatic mission. Sustainability education is embedded for all students through SCSH 1201 and Usrah in Action, extended by skill-based credited electives; applied inquiry is funded via Action Research Grants; and real-world partnerships are mobilised through CENSERVE and RCE Greater Gombak. Together, these platforms turn classrooms into collaboration hubs and research into solutions documented transparently in our annual Sustainability Report.

Our Commitment to SDG 17

Relationships to support the goals

We cultivate multi-level partnerships that co-design policy and practice for the SDGs linking national frameworks like the SDG Roadmap for Malaysia with regional knowledge exchanges such as the 16th Asia-Pacific RCE Regional Meeting, and on-the-ground delivery through RCE Greater Gombak, CENSERVE, and our Training of Trainers for SCSH 1201. Progress and lessons learned are captured in the Sustainability Report.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH REGIONAL NGOs AND THE GOVERNMENT FOR SDG POLICY

IIUM provides evidence-based input to policy cycles identifying challenges, modelling futures, and enabling adaptive management through contributions to the SDG Roadmap for Malaysia, ensuring university insights inform national and regional SDG strategies.

IIUM is heavily involved in the activities of All Party Parliamentary Group – Sustainable Development Goals (APPGM-SDG)

CROSS-SECTORAL DIALOGUE ABOUT THE SDGs

We convene government, NGOs, academia, and communities to accelerate whole-of-society action, with the SDG Roadmap for Malaysia serving as a shared reference point and engagement platform for sustained dialogue.

INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION ON SDG DATA

Through the 16th Asia-Pacific RCE Regional Meeting, IIUM collaborates on gathering, harmonising, and sharing SDG indicators, strengthening regional comparability and decision-making for sustainable development.

COLLABORATION FOR SDG BEST PRACTICE

By participating in the 16th Asia-Pacific RCE Regional Meeting, our researchers benchmark approaches, co-produce guidance, and disseminate international best practices for SDG implementation across diverse contexts.

COLLABORATION WITH NGOs FOR SDGs

Our ecosystem pairs students and scholars with civil society: volunteering via CENSERVE, applied projects through Action Research Grants, and co-created learning resources developed in the Training of Trainers for SCSH 1201, all anchored in community programmes led by RCE Greater Gombak.
